Hojo: Young rising yakuza *gangster* leader. Looked rather boyish, flamboyant as compared to Asami.

Asami: Young rising politician.  Wore glasses, has a scholarly look. Serious as compared to Hojo.

If I remember correctly, they were 26 years old.  BTW, I know my descriptions is not doing them justice, so if there's any of their fans here, pls forgive me and feel free to add-in/correct me.

Short synopsis of the story theme
The series started off featuring a rising yakuza leader, Hojo, and a rising politician, Asami, who shouldn't have any connection, yet were meeting discreetly.  Both are ruthless in their methods/ways, as they climb up the power ladder in their own world. Later, it was reveal that both had a difficult childhood, both somehow manage to survive the war in Cambodia and escape from there back to Japan. As they grew up, they were disappointed with the direction Japanese seems to be going --there were no life in the people, country, and they are going to change it. To do it; first, they had to gain control of Japan. There are two power ruling in Japan; politics and the underground world.  So both of them parted, striking out on their own in both world, working *together secretly* towards their goal, no turning back.

This is a powerful, deeply moving story, with a rather realistic portrayal of the power play.  I heard rumours that the author(s) was 'visited' by yakuza during his writing thus the later part of the series appeared 'out-of-hands'. Still, it's an interesting plot from start to end.  The ending is a twist which I won't mentioned incase some members have not seen it yet.  I much prefer this than the other more-famous series: Crying freeman.

Warning: For more sensitive member, you may find in the story an underlying
tone of Japan-idolization?*can't recall the exact phase but kinda Japanese-are-great/superior*.

Their DEEP friendship? Their trust in each other? Their faith in each other? Their eagerness to take over the hardship for each other?  Their willingness to die for each other? Both are powerful, brilliant, attractive,etc, etc man... in their own right? ......I don't know, why?
