Main characters (last name first):

Makino Tsukushi: Female heroine. She transfers to a prestigious private school and is bullied by everybody because of her working class background. Too bad for the bullies that she knows how to fight back.She's in love both both Doumyouji and Rui and simply cannot choose between the two.

Shizuka: Rui's childhood love. Independent and charismatic. A famous model and seemingly perfect, she is never the less unhappy with her life. She cuts her hair short and goes to New York to pursue a career as a lawyer. Hits jackpot and gets to deflower Rui when he visits her there.

The F 4 - Because their rich parents basically own the school, they don't follow regulations (e.g. don't wear uniform) and rather spend their time bullying and kicking other students. They rule the school with an iron fist. They are:

Doumyouji Tsukasa: tall, curly dark brown hair. The shortest temper ever, prone to violence and as insensitive as a bag of gravel. Has a huge ego problem but can also be very insecure and shy at times. Is cute when he's blushing. Thinks money can buy him anything.

Hanazawa Rui: straight reddish hair, a classic bishounen. A bit on the socially inept side. He plays a beautiful violin and would rather not care about anything or anyone anymore and does a hell of a job of pretending he actually doesn't give a damn. Only opens up around Shizuka and, later, Tsukushi.

(?) Akira: wavy auburn hair. A dedicated ladies' man, has a girl for each day of the week. Prefers older women.

(?) Soujirou: short, straight dark hair. Actually kind of nice once you get to know him. More serious and steady than Akira. The two seem to be best friends.

Story:
The anime basically deals with the "ijime" phenomenon common at Japanese schools, with a romantic twist. When Tsukushi gets "red-tagged" on her first day in the new school for embarassingthe leader of the F4, she faces a daily shower of ridicule, pestering and borderline cruelty by her fellow pupils. But Tsukushi doesn't give up and fights back with everything she's got, taking everyone aback. Slowly, an odd friendship developes between her and her main tormentors, the prestigious F4. While on the outside they seem to be constantly bullying her, in truth both Rui and Doumyouji are rivals for her affection...

Couples:

Although the show does feature the occasional OTHER male bishounen character, the F4 are bishies all the way and should be duely appreciated :-) I've never read HYD yaoi, but would really love to! Basically, they can be slashed in every possible way. :-)

Doumyoui S&M? :-) He likes to hit people - maybe he also likes being on the receiving end?

by Thym: as a pair cos both of them were the main male characters in the story.  Also in the beginning when Doumyoui warns Tsukushi away from Rui...^_^  Most importantly was the teddy bear incident! When Rui didn't tell Doumyoui the truth until he was on the place to NY? co he wanted to have his little revenge on Doumyoui for torning apart*incidentally* his teddy bear when they were young -kindergarten?. *G*
