Main Character list:
Gatts / Gatsu / Gutts: The main chara, a solitary man
who's survived a lot of really really bad stuff; was a merc,
then joined the Hawks (a feared mercenary band) - before
that he was an orphan adopted by a Gambino (who i think
molested him among other things) who taught him his current
lifestyle, and who died at Gatts's hand.
Griffis / Griffith: The charismatic and beautiful leader
of the Hawks, ruthless and cunning and admired by his men.
A great strategist as well as a great swordsman, and dedicated
to his goal of getting his own kingdom.
Caska: Caska is extremely loyal to Griffis, and the
only female Hawk. She's talented with the sword and Griffis's
right-hand man / second-in-command. She's well-respected
by her fellow Hawks. Caska is one kickass chick; I really
like her, but she gets shit in this series. sigh.
Judeau: A Hawk, commander of reconnaissance, laidback.
Corkus: Another Hawk, slightly resentful of Gatts.
Rickert: Youngest member of the Hawks.
Pippin: Quiet, huge Pippin is an advisor to Griffis
and looks after Rickert.
King of Midland
Charlotte: Daughter of the King of Midland, who has
an affair with Griffis.
Gambino: Gatts's guardian when he was a boy; his wife
found Gatts as a baby but died. Later when he tried to kill
Gatts, the boy killed him accidentally instead.
Adon: Pompous figher for the Chudan Empire (vs. Gatts
& crew).
Boscogne: Best knight of the Chudan Empire.
Short synopsis of the story theme:
Berserk follows Gatts, starting with an older, much
more scarred and jaded-looking Gatts battling a demon among
a desolate village, in his quest to destroy anyone associate
with the GodHand that has destroyed everything he loves.
It then tells the story of how he got there. He begins as
a youth defeating a much greater opponent, a silent man
with a giant sword that he should by no rights be able to
swing as easily as he does. A bored number of Hawks harass
him by sheer chance one day, and after getting his ass kicked
by Griffis, Gatts gets recruited into the Hawks. Griffis
has a strange egg-shaped "luck" charm that he has been told
will bring him his desire, and it certainly looks like it's
working. From there Gatts' life is turned onto the path
that will lead us to where we see him in the beginning.
Themes of destiny, fate, struggling against it, and the
lessons of blind ambition prevail. A really wonderful medieval
horror anime / manga.
What are the potential slash couples and why?
Griffis x Gatts or Gatts x Griffis - watch the show
and you'll see it. ;) Among other things they have a waterfight
while Griffis is naked, and Griffis is really adamant about
"getting" Gatts as his own through the beginning of the
show. There is a camraderie that develops between them that
is just yummy.
Gambino x young Gatts - From pics I've seen in artbooks
and stuff- I really think Gambino molested Gatts as a youth.
But besides that, he's brutal, pushy, and Gatt's "master."
I've seen doujinshi on Rickert x Judeau.
I suppose you could also get into Pippin x Rickert.
Straight couples I see are: Griffis X Caska, Gatts x Caska
and of course, Griffis x Charlotte.
